History about Jigme namgay

        Jigme Namgyal


Desi Jigme Namgyal of Bhutan is a forefather of the Wangchuck Dynasty. He served as 48th Druk Desi of Bhutan, and held the hereditary post of 10th Penlop of Trongsa. He was called the Black Ruler.

         Contribution of desi Jigme namgay 


The most important contribution of Desi Jigme Namgyal made was the ushering in of peace, through a reduction of local feuds among the top leadership by gradually unifying the state over three decades, from the 1850s to 1870s.

What does Jigme mean in Bhutan?
The royal baby was given the official family name of Jigme (his is dad and brother also share it!), which means “fearless.” Wangchuck is the name of the royal lineage and dynasty.

Why did Jigme Namgyal
 became Trongsa Poenlop?        He was outstanding military commander and due to his excellent contribution, he rose rapidly through the ranks to become the Trongsa Poenlop in 1853.
Why did Jigme Namgyel went to Trongsa?
The first visit of Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck to Trongsa Dzong in the very year of his birth, therefore, assures the Bhutanese people of the renewal and continuity of that sacred legacy. It strengthens the national vision founded on the legacy of Desi Jigme Namgyel.





Ugyen Wangchuck 



Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck was the first Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan from 1907 to 1926. In his lifetime, he made efforts to unite the fledgling country and gain the trust of the people.
